It is very difficult to choose the 5 best routes in Mallorca since each one we do has its charm and adventure, but in this article I will try to recommend the 5 best routes that you can do in Mallorca by Mountain Bike.
In MTB it is difficult to choose a route to suit everyone, but if you want to see the best of Mallorca you will have no choice but to train and prepare for authentic MTB routes.
With these 5 routes you can get to know Mallorca and its fantastic landscapes with the contrast of sea and mountains, but we recommend that you come well trained, prepared to see stony tracks, be ready to walk in some sections and don’t forget to bring a camera of photos or video.
As we have mentioned, they are our favourites among many others, although other people may say otherwise.
We can take the opportunity to remind you that we offer you our guiding services where you can enjoy the route without any problems, where you will be shown the most important parts of the tour, you will be helped on the long climbs and descents, as well as being recommended the best places to stop for a snack or to have a typical Mallorcan lunch.
The 5 best MTB routes in Mallorca
1, Llevant Natural Park (Tour of 8 beaches)
Distance 45 km (can be made shorter)
Elevation Gain + 1100m
Difficulty: Difficult
Approximate duration 5-6 hours
This route runs through the vast majority of the Llevant Natural Park along paths, trails, technical areas and some secondary roads with very little traffic.
The area has some very beautiful landscapes with contrasts of medium high mountain and the sea that have spectacular views, passing through some of the best beaches in Mallorca. This area of the island is quite sparse with trees and is abundant but low vegetation.
There are some technical areas where we may have to walk in places.
On our route we do not go through practically any area where we can obtain water or food, so be prepared for a long and hard route. In winter there is nothing open but in summer somewhere can be found open in Cala Mesquida.
We advise not to do it in summer and better to do it in cooler times due to the lack of shade.
2 Cap Salinas
Distance: 54km
Elevation gain: 600m +
Difficulty: Very difficult
Approximate duration: 7-8 hours
One of the most unknown routes in Mallorca and although it only has 600m + difference in altitude but you will love it if you like technical areas.
A very complete tour through which we will pass beaches with turquoise water, rocky areas where you can test your technical skills, rock climbing like areas, a torrent or two and flat areas, also getting to know the ‘Salobrar de Campos’ Natural Park .
We recommend doing this route accompanied by another person or a group due to the difficulty in some sections where we will have to pass each other the bikes.
This route can be done all year round although it does not have any shade, but in summer I would try to pass the beach area as soon as possible so you don’t have to dodge umbrellas and balls.
On this route you have some areas where you can obtain food and water, but there is a long, isolated section, so it is convenient to calculate how much you will need.
3 Deia
Distance: 25km
Elevation Gain: 1000m +
Difficulty: Very difficult
Approximate duration: 4-5 hours
A short but intense route due to its hard climbs and some technical areas, but worth the effort to see fantastic views of the Sierra de Tramuntana, we will pass through old Mallorcan estates, centuries-old olive fields and ancient Roman roads that served as communication between villages years ago, and not forgetting to visit Cala Deia, a magical place.
We can do this route all year round but be careful if it has rained or there is a lot of humidity since the stone areas will be slippery. Do not forget that all the barriers you find must be closed after you have passed through, do not leave the track and respect the other mountain users.
On this route you will find places to eat and drink in Deia one of the most beautiful towns on the island in the middle of the route. You can also take the opportunity to visit the Port of Soller and Soller village if you have time, one of the oldest towns in Mallorca with traditions somewhat different from the rest of the island.
4 Esporles
Distance: 25km
Elevation Gain -1000m +
Difficulty: Very difficult
Approximate duration: 4-5 hours
Route that begins with rural roads and trails in the Esporles area with beautiful views of its town, its houses and its fields. You will enjoy a beautiful, long and technical descent that will take us to the sea where you will enjoy magnificent views of the Sierra de Tramuntana caressing the sea. You will enjoy the sea views for a few km and then face a climb with a nice, hard road where in some areas is the original Roman road. We can also see the mountain crops too.
You can eat and drink something in es Port des Canonge and in Bañalbufar, other beautiful villages of the Sierra de Tramuntana with one of the oldest cultivation traditions in its cobbled terraces designed by the Arabs during their time on the island.
This route can be done all year round but watch out for stones that are slippery if they are wet.
5 Andratx
Distance: 30 km
Elevation Gain: 1000m +
Difficulty: difficult
Approximate duration: 4-5 hours
At the western side of the island, you can discover a different terrain with beautiful paths and trails on this route, combining mountain views with those of the sea, fantastic views of the island of Dragonera, and some of the most beautiful trails on the island. We will get to know the towns of Sant Elm with an old fishing tradition, Sarraco, a small inland town, Andratx village and the port of Andratx, where in all of them you can regain your strength or sit on a terrace to relax.
A route that you can do all year without any problem, with some technical and delicate areas.
